The Internet is a great place to find information, but a lot of the
stuff out there is not even worth visiting. On this plane I've tried to
collect the most enjoyable and/or informative web sites to visit. I stop
by many of these pages regularly.
The Best of the Best
- Everything 2 - Something like a
cross between an encyclopedia and a message board. Warning: if you're
anything like me, you'll have an enormous amount of your time sucked in by
this site. Basically a microcosm of the internet without a lot of the cruft,
there's writings on everything you could possibly imagine here, all
interconnected in a way that makes you want to keep reading... and reading...
and reading...
- The Internet Movie Database - information
virtually every movie ever made, most with links to reviews, user comments,
cast & crew, trivia, etc.
- The Dead Letter Office - A
place where people can write letters, as if giving advice from beyond the
grave. There's no moderation, so there's no guarantee it'll work like they
intend it to... but it does. Lots of good wisdom here.
Games
I've always been a lover of games of all sorts... a wonderful way to pass
the time, or even to go out of your way to schedule time for. Here's some of
better games/game companies I've encountered:
- Looney Labs - A small game company
with lots of good stuff. Among other things, they make Icehouse sets, one of
the most versital gaming implments since the invention of playing cards.
Comics
The internet is a great place for smaller comics to flourish, where they can
still have a devoted following, even if they're a bit to controversial,
risqué, or just plain weird to print in a mainstream paper. These are
a few of my personal favorites:
- Questionable Content -
"Indie rock, hipster romance, sentient computers"
- Bruno - The ongoing saga
of a disaffected twentysomething and her struggle to make sense of the
world.
- Goats - Some people, a bar, and some
random sentient animals. Strange stuff happens. A good time is had by
all.
- Sinfest - God, the devil and a kid
who thinks he's the Big-Pimpin' Mac Daddy are some of the denizens of this
strange little world
