The best way to experience JCGoL is to create some patterns on your own
and watch them evolve on your computer screen. There are also many patterns
to be found on the internet that you can download and observe. The following
programs are the best that I have found.
For Windows:
- WLife
1.0 - A port of XLife to the Windows environment. My personal favorite
Life program. Easy to use, nice display options.
- WinLife beta 1 -
Another good Windows Life program, with more options, although slightly
more difficult to use. Still a few bugs to be worked out, but it's still a
solid program.
For DOS:
- LIFE
1.06 - An extremely fast DOS version of Life.
For Mac:
- LifeLab 3.0 -
A fairly powerful Macintosh Life program; includes a large pattern
collection and search engine for finding certain Life patterns.
For UNIX:
- XLife
- The definitive Life simulator. Includes source and executable
forms.
